So something I’ve observed is that I think right wing folks tend to have a more deontological or virtue-based ethical framework and left-wing folks <tend> to be more teleological, and I wonder if mental capacity sort of explains this? At least correlated if not caused?
It would require more mental power to understand how actions tend towards reactions, especially since the interaction may not be direct - than it is just to understand a set of rules be they virtues or rules, and this would explain the correlation between right-wing beliefs and religiosity.
To me this seems kind of obvious. Intelligent people have the capacity to question "truths" the society around them tells them to believe, because they can think and examine the validity of such proposed ideas, and rules, and authority.
Whereas less intelligent people do not have the capacity to question ideas and come up with plausible alternatives, then examine those critically. Therefore they just accept what authoritites, like say their father, or their Dear Leader tells them to believe.
The Left-Wing people are more likely to go to college, and the Right-wing people are more likely to go to a trade school and learn skills. I think this is a factor, you don't call a college-educated person to fix your house, you call a trade school skilled person to fix your house.

I don't think it is a coincidence the religiously organized lean right.
